What Can YOU do?

Now that you have read through QHVSG’s website and have a greater understanding of what faces homicide victims, choose to do something about it!  The myths and misunderstandings around homicide are perpetuated by good people doing nothing!  Please, take some time to read on and make that choice to advocate for those who no longer can speak up for themselves.

Create debate about the rights of victims of crime.  What do you know of the legal system, what are your beliefs?  Do you believe that all murderers are imprisoned?  Did you know that some murderers are granted bail?

Consider what type of society you want to live in.  Do you value the sanctity of human life?  Do you accept violence as part of your society?  Do you fear for your children when they go out at night?  Channel these beliefs into action and get involved!
If someone you know has been affected by homicide, ask if they are receiving support from someone (or from QHVSG).

Do you have some time on your hands?  Consider volunteering for the QHVSG, even the smallest amount of time can create great change.

Voice your concerns.  Share your concerns about the level of violence in Queensland with others – write to your local paper (letters to the editor), write a letter to your local MP asking what they are doing to combat violence in your neighbourhood, write to the Minister for Justice Qld and ask about victims’ rights.

Sign petitions.  QHVSG (and other victims’ groups) often have petitions circulating.  It takes only a few minutes to understand the content of this, and sign to show your support.

Make a donation.  Many people are time-poor, instead show your support by making a donation to QHVSG to enable this organisation to continue setting the benchmark for victims’ support.
