One Punch Can Kill Campaign
The Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group wholeheartedly supports the One Punch Can Kill campaign, aimed at educating young men that even the smallest act of violence can have devastating outcomes. During 2007, a number of violent fatalities occured through the use of one or two punches. One short-tempered moment can result in two family's lives turned completely upside down, and the QHVSG and Queensland Government are encouraging people to choose to walk away and cool down rather than using violence as a solution. Memorial Services
Memorial services are held annually and create a safe and healing space for families to come together, to swap stories of their loved ones, and to share practical tips with each other to move forward through your grief. In 2008, services are being held in Brisbane (Albion), Townsville and Cairns during the weekend of the 20th-21st September.
Shopping Tour Fundraiser
After our success in 2007, QHVSG is again organising our Shopping Tour Fundraiser in Brisbane. This event helps raises funds for the group, and at the same time introduces people to a range of retailers offering huge discounts and specials as part of the trip. This event is open to the public, and this year we have two buses booked for October. Please click here to register your interest.
Bridge to Brisbane
This year, QHVSG has entered a team into the Bridge to Brisbane funrun. Our team - Champions for Change - comprises a small number of staff, volunteers and community members who are coming along to wear our One Punch Can Kill t shirts and enjoy a fun morning out. Participants are encouraged to seek sponsors, however this isnt essential...its just a good reason to get out there and promote our One Punch Can Kill message.
